Dr. Ingrid Kane, a Consultant Stroke Physician at The Royal Sussex Hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, knows firsthand the intense pressures of being on-call in today’s demanding healthcare environment. Like many NHS clinicians, Ingrid faces long hours and the constant need to be available at a moment’s notice. With workforce shortages putting added strain on the NHS, technologies like Brainomix are playing a vital role in easing some of that burden.
For Ingrid, being on call used to mean staying close to a desktop computer in order to quickly review patient scans, even during her commute or personal activities. This caused anxiety, as there was always the risk of a delay in treatment if she was not immediately near her computer to assess scans.
However, since adopting Brainomix 360 Stroke in 2021, and utilizing the mobile app, this stress has significantly reduced. Now—whether she’s training to take on The Route – Tour 2024 Tour de France Femmes, cycling through the South Downs in Sussex on her way to the office, walking her dog, or taking her children to school—Ingrid can review patient scans on her phone without having to rush to a computer.
This added mobility has allowed her to prioritize her own well-being, allowing her room to now cycle into work without worry, while continuing to provide top-notch care for her patients.
“The Brainomix software, and the mobile app in particular, have really transformed the way I manage my clinical duties, adding a level of flexibility that enables me to work more effectively when I’m on call,” Ingrid added.
Beyond improving work-life balance, Brainomix also works to enhance patient care. Stroke treatment is highly time-sensitive—‘Time is Brain’—and faster intervention can significantly improve patient outcomes. Ingrid has found that with Brainomix, she can assess scans more quickly, from anywhere, with the help of the mobile app. This speedier response time, and flexibility with viewing scans, ensures that patients are transferred or treated quicker, a crucial component for improved health outcomes and better recovery rates.
For Ingrid, Brainomix is more than just a tool for improving efficiency —it’s helped her reclaim her time, allowing her to enjoy activities like cycling to work and dropping her kids off at school, without compromising the quality of care she provides. At a time when the NHS and other healthcare systems are facing ongoing workforce pressures and clinicians are dealing with high levels of burnout, Brainomix offers a solution that enhances both physician well-being and patient outcomes.
“We see the Brainomix 360 Mobile App as a significant enabler. Beyond instantaneous and real time image sharing across the network, which is a game changer in itself, many physicians like Ingrid have benefitted from “staying connected” whilst enjoying a better home and work life balance. The power of this should never be underestimated under the backdrop of long working hours and complex and highly time sensitive clinical decision making” commented Riaz Rahman, Director EMEA and Brainomix.
